Vienna Christmas Gift Ideas: 11 Unique Gifts and Souvenirs for People Who Love Vienna
CozyPhoto4u by SomaShort answer: The classic Vienna gifts are Sachertorte, Manner wafers, Mozartkugeln, Julius Meinl coffee, Augarten porcelain and Lobmeyr glass, and you'll find the best shops for them within a few minutes' walk of St. Stephen's Cathedral. If you want something that lasts longer than the chocolate, a print of the Riesenrad or the city at night brings back a real memory of Vienna. Order printed gifts in November or early December, and if you're late, a digital download arrives instantly.
If someone close to you lived in Vienna for a while, spent a honeymoon there or goes back every December for the Christmas markets, finding a gift is easier than it looks. Vienna is the city I photograph most, so here's my list, the famous sweets and the shops included, and my own photos of the city in between.
Timing
Order printed gifts in November or early December, and choose a digital download if it's the last week before Christmas.
The Christmas market on Rathausplatz opens on 13 November 2026 and runs until 26 December, closing early at 6:30 pm on Christmas Eve, according to Visiting Vienna, and that's a good reminder to think about gifts. CozyPhoto4u prints are made to order and then shipped, so for printed gifts I'd order in November or early December. If it's already the week before Christmas, go straight to the digital download at the end.
Gift Ideas
1. A print of the Riesenrad
The Riesenrad has been turning over the Prater since 1897, and it's the one landmark almost every Vienna fan recognises straight away. Prater Ferris Wheel fits into most homes, and there's a good chance the person you give it to has ridden it themselves.
2. Sachertorte
The most famous cake in Vienna, chocolate with a thin layer of apricot jam, and it comes in its own wooden box, which makes it an easy gift to carry home. The Sacher cake shop is at Kärntner Straße 38, right by the hotel, and if you'd rather have a slice there first, Café Sacher is around the corner at Philharmonikerstraße 4.
3. Manner wafers
The pink packets with St. Stephen's Cathedral on them are probably the most Viennese thing you can buy for a few euros. Any supermarket has them, but the flagship Manner shop at Stephansplatz 7, right next to the cathedral, has gift boxes and flavours you won't find elsewhere.
4. Mozartkugeln and chocolates
Mozartkugeln are a bit of a cliché, but people who love Austria usually still like getting them. You'll find them in every supermarket for much less than in the souvenir shops. For a nicer box, I'd go to Altmann & Kühne at Am Graben 30, whose tiny handmade chocolates come in little boxes that look like miniature chests of drawers and books.
5. Julius Meinl coffee
Coffee is part of Vienna's identity, and Meinl is the name behind a lot of it. The Julius Meinl delicatessen at Graben 19 is worth a visit anyway, and a bag of coffee from there is a good gift for anyone who misses their morning Melange.
6. Vienna at night
Cake and coffee get finished, a photo stays on the wall. For couples with their own memories of the city, a night photo often works better than a daytime one. Circle of Joy shows the Riesenrad lit up in gold against a dark sky and looks best in a bedroom or a living room with soft light.
7. Augarten porcelain
Augarten has been making porcelain in Vienna since 1718, and a single cup or a small figurine is a gift that will be kept for decades. The flagship store is at Spiegelgasse 3, a short walk from the Graben.
8. Lobmeyr glass
Lobmeyr has made glassware and chandeliers in Vienna for generations, and their thin, hand blown glasses are the kind of thing you'd never buy for yourself. A single glass or a small carafe is enough. The shop is at Kärntner Straße 26, and it's worth going up to the small museum on the upper floor.
9. A Christmas market mug
Punch and mulled wine at the Vienna Christmas markets are served in mugs that change design every year, and you pay a deposit for them. Many people simply keep theirs, which makes it the cheapest Vienna souvenir there is. The Rathausplatz market is the biggest, but every market has its own mug.
10. Black and white or modern Vienna
If their flat is very minimal, I'd go for Up & Around, a black and white night shot of a Ferris wheel in the Prater that's mostly lines and light. There are more photos in the same style in my Black and White collection.
Not every Vienna lover wants another landmark on the wall, though. My photos of the WU Library by Zaha Hadid show a side of the city that many visitors never see, which makes them a nice choice for architects, students or anyone convinced they've already seen all of Vienna. All of these and more are in the Vienna Wall Art collection, and on the CozyPhoto4u Vienna board on Pinterest.
11. For the very last minute: a digital download
Most photos in the shop are also available as a high resolution digital download for 9.99 euros, which you receive immediately after purchase. You can email it, have it printed locally, or put it in a card with a note that the canvas is on its way.
If you're not sure what to choose
If you're in Vienna yourself, the sweets and the coffee are easy to pick up on one walk between Stephansplatz and the Graben. If you're buying from home, a print is the one gift on this list that arrives by post and stays. Canvas fits almost any interior, so it's the safer choice if you don't know their style, and 45x60 cm is the size that works in most places. You'll find all the photos in the CozyPhoto4u webshop.

Frequently asked questions
Where is the best place to buy souvenirs in Vienna?
The old town around Stephansplatz, the Graben and Kärntner Straße. Sacher, Manner, Meinl, Augarten, Lobmeyr and the Demel confectionery at Kohlmarkt 14 are all within a few minutes' walk of each other, so you can do most of your gift shopping in one afternoon.
What is famous in Austria for gift?
Besides the Vienna classics in this list, Swarovski crystal from Tyrol and Styrian pumpkin seed oil are popular Austrian gifts. They're famous for good reason, though for someone who already knows Austria well, something more personal often means more.
What are some good things to buy at Vienna Christmas markets?
Handmade glass ornaments, candles, wooden toys, gingerbread and honey, and of course the year's punch mug.
Can I buy Vienna gifts without travelling to Vienna?
Some of them, yes. Sacher and Altmann & Kühne sell online, Manner wafers are in many supermarkets outside Austria, and my Vienna prints are made to order and shipped to you, or available as an instant digital download.
